Coaching Approach and Philosophy
a systemic approach to career and leadership coaching
I am a systemic career and leadership coach.
This involves looking at how all areas of your life connect and influence each other allowing you to take a holistic approach to deciding and implementing the next steps in your career and professional development. We will also explore how you operate in the system of your workplace and how your interactions with others influence career progress and achievements.
I help you to develop an in-depth knowledge of your strengths and values and an applied understanding of how to use them to support change and achieve your goals. The acceptance of our strengths and weaknesses, the exploration of our values and an awareness of how we manage ourselves with an openness to what is helpful and what is not is essential for a successful coaching outcome. In addition, open coaching conversations will allow us to explore any skills and knowledge gaps you may have allowing us to explore options on how to fill them.
OUR life systems
In my experience life and career are entwined and decisions we make in terms of our career affect other areas of our life. Feeling stuck in a career you don’t enjoy is likely to spill into our areas of your life. If you enjoy your career, but spend time thinking about it outside your working hours, your family and friends may notice you being distracted and it can affect those relationships.
our work and career system
Our careers provide us with more than an income – we also receive a sense of identify from our work. Disentangling how our work life and our personal life connect and what changes are possible and needed can be part of our coaching work. Learning how others see us can help us to develop and achieve our goals. I am accredited to use personality tests which can help you to understand how you like to be managed, how you manage others and we explore whether this is in line with how they like to be managed. We can work on improving key skills such as conflict management and resilience as well as assertiveness. Achieving goals does not happen in isolation and if needed, I can offer team coaching sessions to help teams to agree on their team purpose. I help teams to achieve their goals through learning to manage conflict in a constructive way, creating accountability and achieving buy-in from all team members to work towards an agreed shared goal.
Help at all stages of your career
My coaching helps you to:
- Raise an awareness of where you feel you like to make a change, what is currently happening in your life and what life would look like having achieved the change or next step in your journey.
- Acknowledge all your great strengths and achievements, value them and see how they can be used in all your life areas.
- Think through options, consider what change they would make, what needs to happen so that they can realistically be implemented.
- Hold you accountable through regular meetings, tasks to do in between sessions.
my past clients sought coaching because:
- They wanted to enhance or develop particular skills to perform better in their role.
- Considered their next career step and wanted to define this next step and agree and implement the actions to achieve it.
- Had a change in life circumstances and their career and life needed aligning.
Why did I choose systemic coaching?
I strongly believe that career decisions impact on other aspects of life like a domino effect and therefore I take an integrated systemic approach to consider what matters to you overall.
I also draw on positive psychology concepts such as strengths work and aligning your personal core values with everything you do in your life. I strongly believe that if our personal values are misaligned with the values of our workplace, work motivation and overall life satisfaction will be lower than it could be.
I take a particular interest in lifespan psychology as well as organisational psychology; this places me in a good position to understand how our needs and outlook on life changes as we move through our personal and work life. In my experience, some clients happened to stumble into a career to discover that their values, strengths and personality are misaligned with their current career. They may be the born entrepreneur and struggle to work in a very structured, big and hierarchical organisation.
Some clients are very happy in their career and their skills and values are aligned but they have not had the opportunity to develop their leadership skills and are looking at making sense of how they want to lead and be perceived by others. aree
Free first initial meeting
Coaching psychology research has shown that one of the key ingredients to a successful coaching outcome is the relationship between the coach and the client. Coaching is no quick fix, no magic wand. Trust and rapport enable open and honest conversations that will highlight what is holding you back, what you really want. If you trust your coach to have your best interests at heart, then you will share your challenges and you can explore ways to overcome them. You will be open to feedback on any blind spots the coach notices. I therefore invite you to book a free initial meeting so you can decide whether the chemistry between us would support a successful coaching outcome.
